Woman’s Own bingo

Katrina Evans, 49, from Fife, Scotland, treated her family with her big win

I’ve always enjoyed playing bingo, and for many years would regularly visit the local bingo halls together with my mum.

But when I got a promotion at the dry cleaners where I work and my hours increased, I didn’t have time to go any more. It was such a shame!

But then, one evening in December 2005, I saw an ad for a slot game called Tiki Temple. I used to love playing the slot machines in the pub, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Easy to join

Signing up to Woman’s Own Bingo was so simple. I did it all on my laptop, and it only took a matter of minutes. I deposited the initial £10 into my account and started to play.

I was surprised to find that Woman’s Own Bingo had a busy network of chat rooms. I was intrigued, so I started chatting in one of them. Everyone was so friendly, and we’d talk about everything from the games we were playing to what we were having for tea that night! Soon I found myself looking forward to catching up with my friends in the chat rooms as much as playing the games. I’ll log in most evenings to play my free daily game, which as a member I can play if I have wagered £2 in the last seven days. On these daily free games, you can win cash or free spins. I usually play the slot games twice a week and I’ll allow myself an hour of fun. I’ve even had a few small wins, too. My favourite slot game is Tiki Temple because prices start from 1p per spin and it’s fun to play.

Temple of... boom!

One early morning in September 2017, I went downstairs and made myself a cup of coffee. Curled up on the sofa, I decided to play Tiki Temple.

After a couple of spins, I made it into the bonus round and got through to the Temple itself, where I knew I had a chance of winning the jackpot. I was only playing it for a minute or so when suddenly a treasure chest poured out gold coins.

‘I’ve won,’ I thought. Checking my account, I was amazed to find it had gone up by £4,561! I couldn’t believe it. For 10 minutes, I just sat in amazement. Then I ran upstairs and woke my son, Daniel,

‘I never expected a big windfall like this!’

29, to tell him. ‘Thank goodness, I thought there was something wrong,’ he gasped. I couldn’t wait to call Mum. When I told her the good news, she was over the moon for me. ‘Well done, Katrina,’ she said. ‘That’s fantastic!’

Sparkling finds

Later that day, Daniel and I decided to go on a celebratory shopping trip. His 30th birthday wasn’t far away, so I treated him to a nice new pair of trainers. I also bought my mum some sparkly tops – I wanted to surprise her as she never buys anything for herself!

I put most of my winnings into my savings account. But I did set some aside to treat Daniel to a special birthday meal. We went to a pan-asian restaurant, where they cook the food on huge grills in front of you. It was an amazing experience.

I’ve been playing bingo for over 10 years, but I never expected to have a big windfall like this. Although it’s a nice bonus, it’s not the main reason why I enjoy playing Woman’s Own Bingo. For me, it’s all about the online co mmunities and having such a nice group of people to chat with while I’m playing my favourite games. It’s much more sociable than I expected it to be and I love that the most. Being a very busy mum, it’s important to set aside some time for myself and Woman’s Own Bingo offers a lot of fun, which I really enjoy.

Treating her son to some ‘food theatre’ was just part of the fun
