BGT is my dream gig. I can’t believe how fast it comes round. You get Christmas out of the way, January comes around and it’s such a depressing month, but then we go on the road and do the auditions, which is fantastic.
I’ve just seen a four-legged fashion show with a Carol Vorderman lookalike backstage…
Do you know what we saw the other day? A man who believed sucking the spines out of jellied eels was a talent. I had to leave the stage, it was so disgusting and fishy.

Alesha [Dixon, her fellow BGT judge] and I were talking about it. Each year we wonder if this the year that we’re not going to be surprised – we are going to turn into old cynics. But after 12 years, here we are, nearly all having pressed our golden buzzers only halfway through the tour and the talent is amazing! It proves I’m not the jaded old bird I thought I was, but still hopeful.
You are definitely the queen of the golden buzzer!
We judges have done an award for highest- rated golden buzzer winning final and I currently hold it. I think Alesha is third but Simon and I tussle for top place. So, yes, there’s a bit of a competition between us.
