‘I t’s just showing off!’

I’m no prude, but when it comes to topless sunbathing, I’m firmly in the ‘put ’em away’ camp. Flashing a bit of cleavage in a classy frock is one thing, but oiling yourself up and stretching out on the beach in only bikini bottoms? Please! It’s nothing more than attention-seeking. As the mum of a teenage boy, I know all too well that raging hormones make stealing a cheeky eyeful impossible to resist. Beyond that, it can make people of all ages uncomfortable, myself included. So whenever we’re away, I make a point of doing a quick swimsuit audit – if tops are off, we’re off. A few years ago, I was on holiday with my family

when a woman started stripping off next to us. But she didn’t stop there. She got stuck into an array of beach games, complete with hair-swishing and pouting. It was quite obviously all done for attention. the older members of our party were squirming in their deckchairs. to save our blushes, we headed to the beach cafe where they had a strict ‘shirts and t-shirts must be worn’ rule! Aside from sparing us all the embarrassment of seeing their boobs, don’t these women think of their own skin? We are bombarded with advice these days to cover up and protect ourselves from skin cancer – something these show-offs should pay heed to.
