Family health problems

Woman's Own - - ASK THE DOCTOR -

Q I fell out with my family several years ago and have recently been back in touch, which is lovely. I have discovered my younger brother aged 47 has glaucoma. He says I am entitled to free eye tests. Is that true? A Yes. If your mother, father, sibling or child has glaucoma and you are over 40, you are automatically eligible for free eye tests on the NHS. We usually recommend that people have an eye test every couple of years but if you are diagnosed with glaucoma then your optometrist might suggest that you have tests more frequently and if he or she does so, all of these would be free too.
