3 things… to remember if you’re driving abroad
Around 4.7 million motorists will take their car on foreign roads this summer, according to Confused.com. The price comparison site has produced a guide on what you need to know – here’s the info!
1 Sort insurance
Before leaving for your holiday, tell your insurer you’re travelling abroad and check if your existing policy covers you while you’re away. Your insurer should automatically extend your cover when you’re driving within the EU. However, this is usually basic third-party cover. So if you want greater protection, speak to your insurer and check if there’s a charge to increase your cover. Also, make sure you check the small print for any exclusions on
your policy.
2 Dodge dramas
Avoid having to fork out a fortune on repairmen by making sure that you have breakdown cover in place for your trip.
3 Be prepared
Keep all your essential documents together in a travel pack, so you’ll know where to grab them if you need to. You’ll need a full driving licence, car registration document (V5), insurance documents, authorisation letter (if it’s a company car), breakdown policy documents and travel insurance documents. Plus, the experts at Confused.com also recommend you carry a first-aid kit, tool kit, red warning triangle, reflective jacket, torch and fire extinguisher.
