Everyone knows that the real Father Christmas lives in Lapland and this is the highlight of the trip. Kids are encouraged to write a short letter to Santa, which they can hand-deliver at his picture-perfect wooden house beside a frozen lake. It’s a magical arrival along a lit path through the forest. Try your hand at making tree decorations and decorating Christmas cookies in the warm, or outdoors there are toboggan races, football on the lake and even a snowball fight with the elves.

Then, it’s time to meet the man himself! We have a quick chat about what we’d like him to bring us and snap a photo before he wishes us a Happy Christmas and sends us off with a gift.

There are limited daylight hours in Lapland during December, so days are short but lend themselves to beautiful pink skies. You might even spot the Northern Lights on a clear night. Within walking distance of the Snow Princess Hotel are traditional restaurants and a supermarket, so you can get to know the area by foot. Because of the extreme weather it’s not advisable to bring children under four.
