When will I get a breast check?

-

QI turned 50 earlier this year and have been expecting to be called for a mammogram but haven’t heard anything yet. I examine my breasts regularly and don’t have any specific concerns, but my mother had breast cancer so I want to make sure I get checked. How do I chase this up?

AIf you are registered with an NHS GP, you will automatically be called by your screening centre every three years between the ages of 50 and 70 (in some areas women are called from the age of 47). However, the mammogram units offer screening to practices in rotation, so your first screening could be anywhere between your 50th and 53rd birthdays.
