3 ways to… extend your gadget’s life

Hoping for a new phone or tablet this Yuletide – and you want it to last? Then check out this advice

-

1 Protect it

A cracked phone or tablet screen can be devastating, so take preventative action.

‘Smashing your device is incredibly common, so using a tempered glass screen protector is great in reducing the risk of any lasting damage,’ advises Julian Shovlin, founder and MD of tech repair specialists ismash. ‘A sturdy case, too, such as a tech21, will give you the best odds of saving your device if you do drop it.’

2 Rest it

Many of us are glued to our phones or tablets, which can

mean they’re constantly switched on. Allowing it to power down for a few minutes at least once a week is helpful in the effective running of your device.

3 Fix it – properly!

Getting your smart phone or tablet wet is a common cause of damage and it’s essential you sort it properly. ‘Take your device to an expert to clear and fix the damage as soon as possible,’ adds Julian. ‘The rice fix is just a myth – rice can absorb a tiny amount of moisture but will not be able to fix the device and the corrosion can cause lasting damage.’
