Eastenders’ Lorraine: ‘Lockdown has taught me I’m lazy,’ plus more celebrity gossip

Eastenders’ Karen Taylor on why she just wants a cuddle…

How are you coping with the break from Albert Square life? We’re just cracking on. I’ve been spending my time with my four-year-old, Nancy, doing so much colouring in – and we’ve made the most of any lovely weather in the garden. I’ve discovered I’m naturally lazy. I’m on the sofa watching a lot of TV. I’m a natural slob!

Is Nancy still too young to grasp what’s going on? She’s very switched on for her age. I’ll say, ‘Let’s go for a walk,’ and she’ll say, ‘No, we can’t today, Mum, because of the corona.’ Like a lot of people, on VE Day we had a socially distanced street party and she said, ‘They can’t come near us, Mummy, because of the germs.’

How did the party go? I made packet cupcakes – you know, where you just add an egg. I haven’t even been to a shop for seven weeks. We had a couple of drinks at the front door, but it’s not the same. I just want to hug everyone.

Have you been looking after yourself on lockdown? Oh, don’t! I’ve put on so much weight. Mark [Karen’s other half] has started hiding the chocolate. He’s like, ‘You’re not having it!’

It’s probably not the best time to try to diet. I’ve told myself that once this is done, I will sort myself out. I think Karen would do the same. The flat would be manic with them all living on top of each other. They’d have the Twister out – she’d be partying every night!

Are you missing people from the show? I miss them all so much. We have our Whatsapp and we have lots of banter but, as much as I’m loving being at home, there are days when I just want to get back to it.

Karen looks set to bolt from Walford as Sharon returns. Karen’s got Kayden and she’d do anything for her grandson. She’s gutted that she’s got to leave Walford to stop him going into care, but she’s doing it for the best. But when Sharon turns up at Karen’s leaving do, Kayden falls asleep in her arms and she’s overwhelmed by emotion. The question is, will she want him back? It’s very bittersweet. ● Eastenders, BBC1, Monday and Tuesday
