I lied about her fiancé
QI’m known for getting drunk and saying brutal things. Recently, I told everyone my best friend’s fiancé had come on to me, which was a lie. I’ve apologised, but my friends say I need to sort myself out. How do I get them to see it was the drink talking?
AWe’re all guilty of saying and doing stupid things when we’ve had one too many, but this was more than that. What’s more, in your apology you’re not taking responsibility but rather blaming it on the drink. This is a pattern for you and one you need to fix. Firstly, address why you get drunk so often and then prove to your friends that you will change your ways.
The liver is the body’s biggest internal organ and it’s responsible for around 500 functions. Prof Stephen Ryder, consultant hepatologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts and medical advisor to the British Liver Trust, describes it as our ‘body’s factory’.
It fights infection and diseases, destroys poisons and toxins (including alcohol and drugs), cleans the blood, controls levels of fat, amino acids and glucose, manufactures bile (that yellow, green, brownish fluid that helps absorb fat), processes digested food, as well as turning it into energy, and stores iron and vitamins. The liver also holds approximately 10% of our blood (around 0.5ltr) and pumps nearly 1.5ltr of the stuff through itself every minute.
