A BIG PROBLEM
Think you’ve heard all you ever needed to about fat shaming? Well, stand by your scales. The latest suggestion is that restaurants, cafes and takeaways refuse to serve anyone they deem to be dangerously obese.
Which means the bloke in your local fried-chicken shop now has to be an expert on Body Mass Index and nutrition as well as the herbs and spices on his wings.
I get how this works in a pub with landlords refusing to serve anyone who is staggeringly drunk, but surely putting the onus on restaurateurs to make similar judgements with food is not workable? And won’t the person who has been turned away just go home and order a delivery or raid their own fridge? Obesity is a huge problem in this country but Fat Monitors on every high street really is Big Brother. Literally.
