Judy: ‘My time is short!’ The TV star shares her fears for the future

Presenter Judy Finnigan shares her fears for the future

The pandemic that has plagued the world for more than 15 months has understandably made everyone question the future - and TV legend Judy Finnigan is no exception.

The star has admitted she fears time may be running out and that she won’t be around to see her family grow up.

FINAL CELEBRATIONS?

‘I sat dolefully doing the maths and realised it’s highly unlikely I’ll see my grandchildren wed,’ said Judy, 73.

The shock statement comes as Judy’s son Jack, 35, is due to tie the knot this summer - which Judy admits is a bittersweet feeling.

‘Jack is the last of my four children to get married, which means this will be my final family wedding,’ she mused.

When discussing her ideal playlist for the wedding, she said, ‘Last night I was so excited, I forced poor Richard to watch the ultimate feel-good wedding movie, Mamma Mia!

‘If a mum can’t twirl to ABBA at her son’s wedding, what’s she gonna do? Wait for her funeral - where Dancing Queen is definitely on the menu, although alas I won’t be joining in?’

It seems these morbid thoughts are playing on Judy’s mind, as she added, ‘The current trend of later marriages and postponed parenthood means many boomers will have boomed into oblivion by the time our children’s children tie the knot.’

‘IT AFFECTED MY WORK BADLY’

HEALTH FEARS

Judy’s health has been a cause for concern over the years and she’s previously opened up about how the menopause forced her to stop working, admitting, ‘Menopause can be horrible, mine was, and it affected my work badly.’ And now the pandemic is creating more worry. When speaking about the current COVID-19 travel restrictions, Judy revealed that she ‘needs’ a holiday before her time runs out. Speaking about young people who aren’t yet vaccinated, she stated, ‘A negative COVID-19 test will get them into European holiday resorts, and anyway they’ve got years ahead of them to travel. Time is short for us oldies. We need the sun and we need it now.’

FEELING INSIGNIFICANT

The presenter also admitted that as she’s aged, she feels ‘insignificant’ compared to her younger years as a parent. ‘As we get older, big family celebrations force us to confront time’s inexorable slog,’ she said. ‘As you become the tribal elders, your nurturing role shrinks and your significance dwindles.’

She continued, ‘That’s life and there’s nowt we can do about it, so the few major milestones which remain become more solemn, weighty and wistful.

‘That’s why, for me, my youngest son’s wedding will be incredibly emotional. Because it will be the last.’
