When I turned up at school with this hairstyle, I was suspended by the headteacher. I didn’t care

– I was leaving soon and I just loved the way my hair made me feel. I had volunteered as a model at a local hairdressing college and the stylist curled my hair at the front and dyed it bright pink. The back was long, with strands of pink running through it, and I had a zigzag parting. I modelled it at a competition in Blackpool and, on the way home to Scunthorpe, people stared at me through the car window. The curls washed out instantly, as did the colour after a few weeks, and I went back to my long, dark, shiny hair.
