LACK OF FIBRE/ GOOD NUTRITION
The average adult only consumes 18g of fibre per day – 12g lower than recommended. Fibre removes waste and toxins from the body, and helps the digestive tract function. It keeps cholesterol low and stabilises blood-sugar levels. SORT IT ‘Adding more daily fibre should soften stools, helping them to pass out easier,’ says Dr Williams. ‘But avoid eating extra wheat bran, as this can make constipation worse.’ Increase fibre-rich foods like berries, wholegrains, oranges, nuts, seeds and broccoli, and drink water.
