Q I’ve been seeing adverts for smart plugs. What are they, and how do they work? A

‘Smart plugs are simple to use: insert the smart plug into a plug socket, then plug the device you want to use, such as a lamp, into the smart plug,’ explains Matt Manning, from Currys plc. ‘You’ll need the smart plug to be connected to your Wifi, then you’ll be able to turn it on or off via an app or smart home device, like an Amazon Echo.
