The Daily Dozen is a great starting point to any healthy-eating plan, including fruit, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts and seeds. It encourages us to eat plantbased wholefoods, as well as our 10-a-day. However, there are certain food groups and nutrients that are low or missing altogether. Instead of following this checklist exclusively, use it as the core of your healthy diet, while adding other nutrient-rich ingredients, such as oily fish, lean meat and low-fat dairy. This will ensure that you eat a wide variety of foods, enjoy a balanced diet and consume enough calories to sustain your activity levels.

Dr Greger’s Daily Dozen app is free to download on the App Store or Google Play.
