Eight-mile Ice Age art
Far away from the UK, Exeter University researchers uncovered an eight-mile stretch of prehistoric paintings in the Colombian Amazon rainforest. Spanning across three different rock faces, the paintings are thought to be 11,800-12,600 years old. They depict the megafauna of the time such as giant sloths and mastodons, a type of large prehistoric elephant, plus humans and abstract shapes. Revealing their findings to the public in 2020, researchers noted that the paintings make up one of the largest collections of prehistoric human art in the world.
