TAKING THE CAKE
I totally get that unlicensed restaurants will charge you corkage if you take your own wine, but have you heard of cakeage? Comedian David Baddiel’s brother Ivor has been charged £10 a head to take his own birthday cake to a family dinner. Another friend was stung £40 for the pleasure of having a waiter slice his Colin the Caterpillar cake. Evidently, this is really a thing now – an idea imported from America. Crumbs, literally.
