Am I over-medicating for my migraines?

-

Q

I have suffered with occasional migraines all my adult life, usually triggered by stress or hormones. I went through ‘the change’ a few years ago and they seemed to get much better, but this year has been hideous. My daughter is having chemotherapy and I’m going through a tricky divorce. My migraines always respond well to sumatriptan, but I’m using this two or three times a week. Is that OK?

A

Sumatriptan works well to halt the symptoms of a migraine when taken at the onset of an attack, but if your migraines are this frequent it would be better to take something each day for the time being to prevent them from occurring. There are several options available, so have a chat with your GP.
