Mark Brooks, Chairman of Mankind Initiative, a charity supporting male victims of domestic abuse, told Woman’s Own, ‘Many men simply don’t realise they are victims, and their friends, family or work colleagues aren’t always attuned to spotting the signs.

‘They can feel embarrassed and ashamed that it is happening to them.

‘Far too few men are getting support, even when help is available in their local area – often they are not told where it is available. Men can turn to their local domestic abuse service or call helplines like ours. We welcome calls from family and friends of victims, too.

‘We urge men to tell friends and family, and, if in danger, call the police. The police do take it seriously nowadays.

‘Men escape from domestic abuse every day. So, too, can you.’
