She plays Baroness Bagshaw in the film and is making her debut as the Queen in the next series of The Crown, so how does Imelda Staunton’s husband Jim Carter, who plays Carson, feel about her regal role? ‘He doesn’t know who I am half the time,’ quips Imelda. ‘He can’t bear that I’m “upstairs”. He’s going to have to back down, buddy!’ She adds, ‘It’s a joy to be with Jim, that makes it for me,’ while Jim tells me what it’s really like on the home front. ‘She rules in the kitchen, I rule in the garden. We share the labour!’ Love like theirs is no labour!
