KEEPING UP WITH THE SUSSEXES

Are Harry and Meghan really ready for reality TV?

-

First there were the Osbournes – a controversial family from California led by a Brummie rock-star dad who bit the heads off bats. Then there were the Kardashians - a controversial family from California headed by a rock-hard mum who bit the head off anyone who dared diss her brood of interchangeable daughters.

Now we have, er, the Sussexes. Well, you know the drill – controversial family relationships, Californian mansion and a history of biting things.

In this case, it would seem to be the Royal hand that used to feed them.

Because it does look like Harry and Meghan have invited the Netflix cameras into their £11 million Montecito home for a fly-on-the-wall reality series that has been months in the making.

Yes, this is the same couple who felt they had to leave the Royal Family and UK because they didn’t like the pressures of being in the spotlight.

The Sussexes signed a £90 million deal with the streaming giant in 2020 just months after hotfooting it from the

UK. They’ve yet to actually produce anything, with the duchess’ ‘feminist’ cartoon Pearl being cancelled amid ‘cutbacks’ and Harry’s documentary on the Invictus Games yet to be seen.

A crew has been following the Sussexes for months and was seen filming them throughout a visit to New York last September and, more intriguingly, in April when the couple popped in on the Queen ahead of her 96th birthday.

No word yet on whether their offspring, Archie, now three years old, and baby Lilibet will take part, but Netflix will definitely want its pound of flesh – and that would seem to involve far more than just the worthy but dull charity work Harry and Meghan take part in.

Of course Netflix - who make the TV drama The Crown - want to release the series this year to capitalise on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee hype.

To give him some credit, though, Harry is keen to delay it until next year.

Meanwhile William, Kate and Prince Charles are said to be deeply concerned about the whole project.

And who can blame them?

The headstrong Sussexes have barely had a nice word to say about either his or

‘THEY SIGNED A £90M DEAL WITH NETFLIX LAST YEAR’

her family for the past two years.

Of course Harry and William went through the horrors of losing their beloved mum Diana and very few come through that kind of childhood trauma unscathed, but Harry in particular has changed beyond belief.

Had the huge pleasure of interviewing Princess Diana and meeting her boys when they were nippers. Harry was a cheeky little imp who loved the cameras. That changed when he lost his mum and he very firmly blamed the media.

Yet now it appears that he’s in bed with that very same media and allowing his entire life to be filmed?

Keeping Up With the Sussexes! has every potential to be a total disaster.
