‘I’m blessed to have her as a friend’
Kara Rollo, 39, says, ‘I knew something was amiss on the night of my wedding when Sammie told me she was leaving early – she is the kind of person who stays to the bitter end! When she texted me, I imagined various scenarios but nothing prepared me for the news she shared that day. Shock hit and the tears just kept coming.
‘I still can’t believe that on the day she received her diagnosis, she was able to stay with me the night before my wedding and not say anything. It’s humbling.
‘When I think back on my wedding day, my memories of Sammie are her smiling from ear to ear. Initially I was so cross she’d kept the diagnosis to herself but I completely understand why she did. What I’ll never understand is how she managed to put that all away and shine so brightly as my bridesmaid.
‘I think she’s incredible in so many ways and I love her so much. Cancer has only magnified what an amazing person she is and I’m truly blessed to have her as my friend.’
