The best of the rest

AUSTRALIA

While locals love barramundi, if you’re in the UK opt for sea bass (the closest pick). Mild in flavour, it’s just 124 calories per 100g and packed with omega-3 fatty acids. Oysters are particularly popular in Sydney. They’re high in protein so will help you feel fuller for longer. Look for them at the supermarket fish counter.

AMERICA

The USA might be famed for cholesterol-clogging burgers, but there are plenty of healthy options too. Add Alaskan salmon, such as No.1 2 Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon Fillets (£7, Waitrose), to your weekly shop for bone-protecting selenium. For pudding, go for Florida favourite key lime pie, which can prevent constipation thanks to the acidity of the limes.

SOUTHEAST ASIA

Broths – either bone broth soup, vegetable or miso – will fill you up and are packed with beneficial herbs and spices. Look for ‘tom yum’ on a Thai takeaway menu, as it contains lemongrass, which relieves bloating, while ‘pho’ (a Vietnamese broth-based soup) has calcium, phosphorus and magnesium for bone health.
