How to make your clothes last longer

-

FIX ANY PROBLEMS

Go through your wardrobe and pull out everything you don’t wear and think about why. Does a skirt have a hem coming down or is there a loose button on a blouse? Make time to fix them. If it’s something tricky, check if there is a repair cafe near you – they often have skilled sewers that will repair clothes free of charge or for a small donation (repaircafe.org).

SHOW SOME TLC

We all know that we should separate laundry into colours, whites and delicates, but when we’re in a hurry, everything gets put in the wash together. But being careful will save your favourite items from going pink or grey, or getting torn. Closing zips and washing bras in netted bags will stop fabrics getting snagged, and turning jeans inside out will stop them fading. For more tips visit hubbub.org.uk.

DON’T BE A HOARDER

If you have clothes you don’t want any more, try selling them online or swapping them with your friends, or donate them to charity.
