BATTLE OF THE MENOPAUSE

-

A committee of MPS is calling for a ‘menopause leave’ pilot scheme to help women at work. They say that symptoms like difficulty sleeping, anxiety and memory problems can have a debilitating impact on women and offering leave could stop them feeling forced out of their jobs.

They also suggest that workplaces have a ‘menopause ambassador’ and that this part of our lives be treated with the same rights as we do maternity.

Of course, in theory, this is wonderful. But in the real world it will make male colleagues resentful and possibly make some unscrupulous employers simply not hire a woman of a ‘certain age’ just in case she starts taking lots of time off.
