IT’S NOT ABOUT EQUALITY
I was gobsmacked when I heard about the family of a disabled girl being told she didn’t have the right to femaleonly care in the school bathroom.
The school, which hasn’t been named, told the parents they had replaced a ‘same-sex’ care policy with a ‘cross-gender’ one, meaning this severely disabled girl was given a male carer to help keep her clean and assist when she had a period.
Children who need personal care should have the right to same-sex carers if they or their families want them. We need to look after our most vulnerable, not put them at risk.
