‘I HOPE PEOPLE LOVE IT AS MUCH AS I DO’

The actor on new comedy drama Marriage…

When she starred in BBC1 drama The Split, Nicola Walker played a divorce lawyer, so there’s a certain irony about the fact that the actor is now starring in a drama about a relationship that has stayed the course for nearly 30 years.

Nicola and Sharpe actor Sean Bean play married couple Emma and Ian in comedy drama Marriage,

which explores how they deal with all of life’s challenges.

When we first meet them, Ian’s coming to terms with his mum’s death and also coping with being made redundant, while Emma’s career is on the up, but the presence of her handsome younger boss Jamie (Henry Lloyd-hughes) doesn’t sit well with her husband…

Nicola says that she loved filming the series, especially when it came to working with writer and director Stefan Golaszewski, who also wrote Mum and Him & Her, and her co-stars Sean and James Bolam, who plays Emma’s dad Gerry.

‘It’s been joyful,’ she says. ‘I hope people love it as much as do!’

And there was one aspect to filming that Nicola particularly enjoyed…

‘Applying cream to Sean Bean’s thigh area!’ she says. ‘Ian has a nasty rash at one point and it’s a beautiful moment. That was a tremendous day in my professional career!’
