How to… avoid overheating this summer
Superintendent pharmacist Phil Day, from Pharmacy2u, shares his tips
SEEK SHADE
‘Make an effort to stay out of the sunshine. But if you must go outside, wear a hat for added protection. If possible, stay inside during the hottest hours of the day between 11am and 3pm.’
HYDRATE
‘Have cold drinks regularly, ideally water. Try to avoid drinking caffeinated drinks and alcohol, as these can further dehydrate the body.’
DON’T DELAY GETTING MEDICAL HELP
‘Always seek medical assistance if you experience symptoms such as breathlessness, chest pain, confusion, weakness, dizziness or cramps that get worse or don’t go away.’
