STAY INFORMED

‘Update yourself on current trends in your industry; it’s likely there’ll have been changes since you were last in the workplace, so read industry press and reconnect with people you used to work with. And a little networking – including online networking on Linkedin – can go a long way,’ says Victoria Mclean, CEO of City CV (citycv.com).

UPDATE YOUR CV

‘Acknowledge the break on your CV and briefly explain what you did. And if you learned any transferable skills during your break that would be relevant for a new position, list them,’ says Victoria.

BE CONFIDENT

‘Going back into work after a career break may feel daunting but don’t forget you still have all your skills and experience,’ she says. ‘So take time to reflect on your previous work life – thinking about all your accomplishments will give you a confidence boost. And hold your head high and don’t give up – you may not find your ideal role straight away but perseverance is key,’ she adds.
