WHY AM I BLEEDING?

Q

Around 10 years ago I went through ‘the change’ at the age of 50. I was one of the lucky ones. My periods just went a bit erratic and then stopped. But last week, out of the blue, I started bleeding. It lasted for three days and then stopped again – is this normal? A

If a woman has a bleed a year or more after her last natural period, this is called a post-menopausal bleed. Your GP will want to know about this so that they can arrange for an ultrasound of your womb and a test to take a small sample of the lining (an endometrial biopsy), so do make an appointment to get this checked out.
