Woman's Own

COMPLAINTS & CONTROVERSY

As Loose Women celebrates 23 years on screen, we look at the most shocking (and bonkers) moments…

-

RED-LIGHT REWARD

Loose Women legend Coleen Nolan raised eyebrows by saying she would reward her then 17-year-old son Shane Jr with a prostitute in Amsterdam if he did well in his school exams. Leaving viewers (as well as, according to reports, her ex-husband Shane Richie) appalled.

TURNING THE AIR BLUE

Over the years, numerous guests seem to have forgotten they were on live TV at lunchtime with their choice of risqué language. From Joan Rivers’ effing and jeffing forcing her to be escorted from the set to Harvey Price’s ‘c***’ leaving us all choking on our cuppas.

PLUS-SIZED MISSTEP

Jamelia found herself ‘hounded’ on social media after saying that high-street shops shouldn’t stock clothes for bigger women. The (slim) former pop star said that larger ladies should be forced to go to ‘specialist’ stores and be made to feel ‘uncomfortable’ for living an unhealthy lifestyle.

JAW-DROPPING JANET

Janet Street-porter is loved (by some) for speaking her mind. But when she compared the then two-year-old Prince George to a ‘cross-dressing millionaire’ she lost a few fans in the process. Off with her head!

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE

Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster put her foot in it when she paid tribute to the late musician Burt Bacharach – who isn’t actually dead. After the commercial break (and viewers’ complaints) she apologised for getting the ‘wrong end of the stick’.

RAPE COMMENTS

In her very first appearance in 2014 Judy Finnigan caused an outcry when she seemingly defended footballer Ched Evans and his return to the pitch after a rape conviction (he was later cleared at a retrial in 2016). Judy said it ‘wasn’t violent, he didn’t actually cause any bodily harm’. She didn’t get a full-time seat on the panel…

CAKE QUARREL

Coleen left a bad taste in viewers’ mouths, with some even calling for her to be sacked, after seemingly comparing supporting gay rights to supporting ISIS during a discussion about the infamous ‘cake row’ in Northern Ireland.

FAKING IT

Pop star Robbie Williams shocked audiences and the panel (including wife Ayda Field) when he made a surprise appearance. The singer jokingly confronted his (very embarrassed) other half after she admitted faking orgasms in the bedroom during one of the show’s more racier discussions.
