He’s so forgetful

-

Q My dad lives a long way from us, so we only get together a couple of times a year. I have noticed that he often repeats himself when we have a Zoom call, but when we visited at the weekend, I saw that he struggled to follow a simple recipe. I think his memory is a much bigger problem than I realised. What should I do?

A Speak to his GP in the first instance. They won’t be able to discuss your dad’s medical issues with you without his permission, but it will be useful for them to know about your concerns. They will want to see him and do some tests and may also refer him to a memory clinic. Going forward, it will be helpful to both you and his GP if your dad gives them permission to disclose information to you.
