Need to know
✣ Among people who know they are pregnant, one in eight pregnancies end in miscarriage.
✣ Losing three or more pregnancies in a row only affects around one in 100 women.
✣ Vaginal bleeding is the first sign of a miscarriage, but as bleeding is common during the first trimester, it may not necessarily mean you are having a miscarriage.
✣ A pregnancy may be more likely to end in miscarriage if you are obese or smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs during your pregnancy.
✣ Contact your GP or midwife if you are worried.
✣ If you have suffered a miscarriage, contact Tommy’s for advice and support on their pregnancy line on 0800 014 7800 (Mon-fri, 9am-5pm) or email midwife@tommys.org.
