How to tackle online job applications

-

DON’T HANG ABOUT

‘As with any job application, tailor your CV and cover letter to the role you’re applying for. If you’re applying online there are some other things to consider,’ says City CV’S Victoria Mclean (citycv.com). ‘Firstly, apply as soon as you can; some companies even stop looking at applications if they think that they’ve found enough candidates to interview.’

GET IT RIGHT

‘Follow all instructions carefully, so if you’re asked to provide three strengths and three weaknesses, that’s how many you should include – no more, no less,’ she adds. ‘If you don’t, your application may not be considered very favourably, or worse, rejected. Make sure any documents you upload are labelled clearly.’

SAVE AND UPDATE

‘Make sure you save a copy of your application – if you get through to the interview stage, you can use it as a reference,’ she adds. ‘And ensure your Linkedin profile is up to date as you may be asked to include a link.’
