This is because eating sugar releases the feel-good hormone, dopamine, in the brain. Without it, your brain goes into withdrawal. But there are things you can do to lessen their intensity. ‘Try doing more exercise – even just a 30-minute walk can help – because this will release endorphins (the body’s natural pain reliever), making you feel better and also helping to regulate your blood sugar levels,’ says nutrition expert Penny Weston**. And don’t forget to stay hydrated – aim for around eight glasses of water a day.
