Why can’t I cope?

-

Q

I am 57 – I have a good job, grown-up kids and a partner. I should be happy, but I feel like I am barely coping most days. I feel tired and old and, if I am honest, depressed. I often feel like crying or just staying in bed, but also guilty for feeling this way – I know I should be grateful for what I have and not be so ridiculous. Do you think it could be menopause or just getting older?

A

There are many reasons why you might feel down or unable to cope. Yes, it might be menopause or many other things, some small and some that you aren’t even aware of. However, understanding what makes you feel this way is key to helping you feel better. We are not automatically saved from feeling low and sad just because we have a good life. You are entitled to feel whatever you are feeling and seek help for it, whether this is seeing a counsellor, talking with your GP, or both.
