REMEMBERING THOSE LOVED AND LOST

-

Emotions always run higher than usual at this time of year, which means for the lonely, lost and bereaved it’s also incredibly hard.

My feisty and fearless friend Patsy is facing her first Christmas without her beloved husband Nobby. They got together as teenagers and pretty much never left each other’s sides for over 50 years.

Theirs was a marriage based not just on love but also laughter and loyalty. Best mates as well as husband and wife.

My heart aches for Patsy and all those facing up to this time of year missing and mourning a loved one. It’s also warmed by Patsy’s brilliant solution for keeping her late husband close on these cold winter nights. She’s had her seamstress sister turn all Nobby’s (very colourful!) old work shirts into a patchwork quilt that now has pride of place on the bed she once shared with him.

A brilliant idea that I hope others will take up.
