3 easy ways to... save on delivery costs
Make sure you don’t overpay sending gifts from A to B this Christmas
1 CHECK THE COMPETITION
When shopping online, search for voucher codes because you may be able to get free delivery and a discount, too. And if the retailer has a live chat option, try asking questions about the item you’re interested in, then ask if they can offer any discounts and/or free delivery. However, if a retailer is charging a delivery fee, see if you can buy the same item elsewhere from a retailer who won’t charge. Another tip is to check if there’s a minimum you need to spend to get free delivery – then see if there’s anything else you could buy to reach the threshold. But remember, it’s not worth buying things you don’t really need, just to get free delivery!
2 GO LOCAL
You could save money by ordering online then collecting in store. This is a good option if the service is free and you live or work nearby. And can you get what you need at a local shop? Even if the item costs a bit more you may save overall by not paying for delivery or spending on fares or petrol to get a better deal.
3 GO DIRECT
When ordering gifts, consider sending the item directly to the recipient – you could save a lot on postage, especially if it’s a heavy package. There’s usually an option to write a gift message. And if you are posting gifts, check the cheap parcel delivery guide at moneysavingexpert. com for tips on whether it’s cheaper to post or courier.
