Is she too sick for her booster?

-

Q

My mum is due to have her COVID-19 booster vaccine at the weekend, but she has recently developed a cough and cold. She’s done a test and thankfully is negative for COVID-19, but I seem to remember hearing that if you’re unwell at the time of vaccination, the vaccine will be less effective in preventing COVID-19. Is that true? I’m not sure whether to take her to her appointment or not.

A If your mother has a temperature her immune response may not be as effective so if she has a fever, she should delay. Anyone who tests positive must not attend for a vaccine as they could expose vulnerable people. If you do delay, let the clinic know so they can offer the appointment to someone else.
