Why You’ll Love… Cambridge
Features Writer, Helena Cartwright
Where I went
The historic university town of Cambridge. Its exquisite architecture, quirky rituals and tranquil appeal make it a must-visit in the UK.
What I did
My fiancé and I visited The North Pole at Parker’s Piece in the centre of Cambridge. We got our skates on and took to the outdoor rink – it’s such a beautiful setting, especially as the sun sets and the lights start twinkling. Afterwards, we nipped into The Alpine cabin bar to escape the icy weather. We enjoyed a mulled wine while watching other skaters take to the ice. For the kids, there’s also funfair rides like dodgem cars, waltzers and even a giant slide (which I had a go on!). The next day we ventured to The Animal Experience, which is just outside of Cambridge, where we had a cuddle with some meerkats. It was amazing!
Where I stayed
At a beautiful boutique hotel called The Tamburlaine (thetamburlaine.co.uk).
It’s just a short stroll to the city centre and a minute’s walk to the train station.
The room was beautiful – it had floor-to-ceiling windows, which flooded the room with natural light.
What I ate
After ice skating at The North Pole, we stopped by one of the stalls there, which offered delicious hot food. Just what you need to warm yourself up! I had a delicious vegetarian burger while my fiancé enjoyed a crêpe.
