They can pro­vide a so­cial out­let – many hob­bies are group-based and a great way to meet and con­nect with peo­ple.

Peo­ple with hob­bies are shown to have fewer cases of hyper­ten­sion, greater phys­i­cal func­tion, health­ier BMIs and fewer men­tal-health prob­lems.
