Guillemots

-

Guillemots are black-andwhite seabirds who lay their eggs on cliff ledges. A pair of guillemots will raise just one chick on the rocky cliff face. When it’s time to leave the nest, the youngster, or ‘jumpling’, faces a terrifying leap down to the sea, hundreds of feet below. But then Dad will stay close to the chick for a couple of months after it has fledged, feeding and teaching it how to fish until it’s fully able to fend for itself.
