These have been shown to be among the most important for protecting cognitive abilities. They are rich in a number of nutrients that are implicated as particular­ly healthy for the brain – folate, lutein, vitamin E and beta-carotene among them. It takes only about one serving a day to slow cognitive decline so you don’t have to eat these at every meal.

The darker the leaves, the greater the source of brain-healthy nutrients.

Many of the nutrients in leafy greens are fat soluble and are best absorbed when they’re eaten with a healthy fat such as extra-virgin olive oil, nuts, avocado or fatty fish.
