Prostate Progress

Woman's Weekly (UK) - - Dr Melanie -

NICE, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, looks set to approve prostate artery embolisation (PAE) for NHS treatment of benign prostate enlargement. This condition affects around one in three older men, causing frequent day/night urination (as can prostate cancer). PAE uses a local anaesthetic and X-rays to guide tiny particles into the prostate and block its blood supply, so that tissues shrink and urination improves without affecting fertility or sexual function.
