Flu jab Free to over-65s without referral. Available at pharmacies and surgeries from September to February. 2

TV licence Over 75? Even if you live with someone younger, you’re still entitled – but you need to apply.

Eye tests Free if you are: under 16; up to and 18 in full-time education; over 60; diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma (or over 40 and have a close family member with glaucoma); registered blind or partially sighted. You may also be entitled to vouchers for specs or contact lenses.

Winter fuel payments If you were born on or before 5 November 1953, you may be eligible for money to pay your heating bill. Check on gov.uk. 5

Prescripti­ons Free if you are: 60 or over; under 16; up to 18 and in full-time education; pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months; a holder of a valid

medical exemption certificat­e.

Dental treatment Free if you are: under 18; up to 18 and in full-time education; pregnant or have given birth within the last 12 months.

Health checks If you’re 40-74 (without pre-existing conditions), you should be invited to a free health check

every five years.
