Little Donkey

Woman's Weekly (UK) - - NATURE -

The hard-working donkey has one of the oldest links with Christmas. Revered for carrying the pregnant Virgin Mary to Bethlehem, the connection continues to this day with donkeys featuring in Nativity scenes, an association that stems from 7th-century gospels. In recent years, the creature has been immortalised in the festive song Little Donkey. There are over 40 million domesticated and wild donkeys worldwide, many of them used as beasts of burden. They will often form close bonds with humans and other donkeys alike.
