Side seam 23.5 (25) (26.5) cm/9¼ (9¾) (10½) in.
Length to shoulder 38.5 (40.5) (42.5) cm/15 (16) (16¾) in. sleeve seam 25.5 (27.5) (29.5) cm/10 (10¾) (11½) in.
3 (4) (5) 50g (104m) balls of King Cole Merino Blend DK (100% wool) in Pale Blue (1531); 2 (2) (3) balls in White (01); 1 ball in each of Pale Pink (1532), Carnation (3090), Scarlet (09), Cranberry (703), Raspberry (907) and Fuchsia (787); small amount in each of Black (48), Gold (55) and Mustard (855)*. Pair each of 3.25mm (No.10) and 4mm (No.8) knitting needles; stitch holders. Yarn is available from theknittingnetwork.co.uk.
22 stitches and 28 rows, to 10 x 10cm, over stocking stitch, using 4mm needles.
K, knit; p, purl; st(s), stitch(es); tog, together; inc, increase (by working twice into same st); dec, decrease (by working 2 sts tog); ss, stocking st (k on right side and p on wrong side).
Yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are therefore approximate. Instructions are given for small size. Where they vary, work figures in round brackets for larger sizes. Instructions in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.
With 3.25mm needles and Pale Blue, cast on 66 (70) (78) sts.

Stranding yarn not in use loosely across wrong side, work twocolour rib as follows,
1st rib row (right side): K2 Pale Blue, [p2 White, k2 Pale Blue] to end.
2nd rib row: P2 Pale Blue [k2 White, p2 Pale Blue] to end.
Last 2 rows form rib. Rib another 6 rows.
With Pale Blue, k 2 rows. **
Change to 4mm needles and continue in White only.
K 1 row, inc 6 (8) (6) sts evenly

Beginning with a p row, ss 45 (49) (53) rows. Continue in Pale Blue only. Ss 10 rows. shape armholes: Cast off 2 (3) (4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows – 68 (72) (76) sts.
Dec 1 st at each end of next row and 4 following alternate rows

Ss 31 (33) (35) rows. shape shoulders: Cast off 7 sts at beginning of next 2 rows and 6 (7) (8) sts at beginning of following 2 rows – 32 (34) (36) sts.
Leave these sts on a st holder.

Beginning with a p row, ss 13

Using separate small balls of yarn for each coloured area and twisting yarns together on wrong side at joins, reading Peppa chart from right to left on right-side (k) rows and from left to right on wrong-side (p) rows, work motif from chart thus:
1st row: K18 (21) (24) White, k across 1st row of Peppa chart, k18 (21) (24) White.
2nd row: P18 (21) (24) White, p across 2nd row of Peppa chart, p18 (21) (24) White.
Work another 30 rows from chart as set.
Using Pale Blue instead of White, work a further 10 rows from chart. shape armholes: Continue working from chart and cast off 2 (3) (4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows then dec 1 st at each end of next row and 4 following alternate rows – 58 (62) (66) sts. Pattern 7 rows straight to complete chart.
Continue in Pale Blue only and ss another 12 (14) (16) rows. shape neck: next row: K19 (20) (21), turn and work on these sts for left side. left side: Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows and 4 following alternate rows – 13 (14) (15) sts.
P 1 row. shape shoulder: Cast off 7 sts at beginning of next row –
6 (7) (8) sts. Ss 1 row. Cast off. right side: With right side facing, slip centre 20 (22) (24) sts on to a st holder, rejoin Pale Blue to remaining sts, and k to end

Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows and 4 following alternate rows – 13 (14) (15) sts.
P 1 row and k 1 row. shape shoulder: Work as left shoulder.
With 3.25mm needles and Pale Blue, cast on 42 (46) (50) sts. Work as back from ** to **. Change to 4mm needles.
K 1 row, inc 5 sts evenly – 47 (51) (55) sts. P 1 row.
Continue in ss and inc 1 st at each end of next row and 5 (6) (7) following 10th (10th) (8th) rows – 59 (65) (71) sts.
Ss 9 (5) (15) rows. shape top: Cast off 2 (3) (4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st at each end of next row and 4 following alternate rows – 45 (49) (53) sts.
Dec 1 st at each end of next 9 (11) (13) rows – 27 sts. Cast off.
Join right shoulder seam. With right side facing, and with 3.25mm needles and Pale Blue, pick up and k13 sts down left side neck, k20 (22) (24) sts from centre front holder, pick up and k13 sts up right side neck, then k32 (34) (36) sts from centre back neck holder – 78
(82) (86) sts. K 1 row. Rib 4 rows as for back. Break off White and continue in Pale Blue only. Decrease row: With Pale Blue, k2 (4) (6), k2tog, [k4, k2tog, k2, k2tog] 7 times, k to end – 63 (67) (71) sts. K 1 row. Beginning with a k row, ss 4 rows. Cast off.
To make up
Fold neckband to wrong side and sew in place. Join left shoulder and neckband seams. Sew in sleeves then join side and sleeve seams. Following charts and photos, embroider a French knot with Black for each eye pupil. Outline with a circle of chain stitches in White, then another circle in Carnation. With Raspberry, embroider curved line of chain stitches for mouth and 2 French knots for nostrils. With Carnation, embroider tail in chain stitches. With White, Swiss darn tree motifs above cuff on sleeves and above White section on back and front. With White, Swiss darn snowflake motifs, randomly spaced.
