MATERIALS

1 x 100g (295m) ball of Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic) in each of Gold (1709), Camel (1420), Buttermilk (1835) and Cream (1005)*. Oddments of Black DK yarn. Pair of 2.75mm (No. 12) knitting needles; short length of contrast yarn to use as markers; large-headed pins for sewing up; toy stuffing; tweezers for filling small areas. ABBREVIATI­ONS

St(s), stitch(es); k, knit; p, purl; ss, stocking st (k on right side and p on wrong side); k2tog, k 2 sts together (to decrease 1 st); up1, pick up loop lying between needles and k into back of it (to increase 1 st); ssk, slip 1 st, slip next st, k these 2 sts together through the back loops (to decrease 1 st); G/C, Gold or Camel; C/G, Camel or Gold.

TENSION

23 stitches and 35 rows, to 10 x 10cm, over unstuffed ss, using 2.75mm needles.

NOTE

Use colours as follows: for large deer with antlers, main colour is Camel; hooves and antlers Gold; muzzle and stripe above hooves Cream. For large deer without antlers, main colour is Gold; hooves Camel; muzzle Buttermilk; stripe above hooves Cream. Make one small deer in each colour scheme, minus the antlers. Yarn amounts are based on average requiremen­ts and are therefore approximat­e. Instructio­ns in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.
