SCENTED BLOOMS
One of the most reliable bloomers for Christmas time is the scented Clematis cirrhosa. The maroon speckled variety Freckles is a popular choice but for Christmas, the aptly named
Jingle Bells is outstanding with creamy white nodding flowers. It’s ideal
for pots and can be trained up a wigwam.
Use a pebble mulch to keep the roots cool, and to keep the plant orderly, cut it back immediately after flowering. Trim back each shoot to a pair of healthy buds, then feed the plant with a slow-release fertiliser.
